Spring Soccer

Both Austin and Mikayla chose to do Spring Soccer this year. So our weeknights have been busy with practice and our Saturdays busy with games.

We were really surprised when Mikayla asked to do soccer because the last time she did soccer she never really got into the game. I asked her several times if she was sure she wanted to play and offered other alternatives but she wouldn't budge. She insisted she wanted to play soccer.

She never once complained about going to practices. She got some touches on the ball during the games but mostly she just did a lot of running up and down the field without getting aggressive enough to go after the ball.

But if the ball came close enough to her she would get it. However she seemed to be enjoying herself for the most part. She did tell me though that she likes the practices but doesn't really like the games. I'm sure the fact that practices are more relaxed and they play fun games might have something to do with that.

Mikayla loved Coach Marshall. At her last practice she insisted on bringing him something so he was the lucky recipient of a Rice Crispy Treat.

Austin played with Coach Gish again this season except this time they divided the boys up into 2 teams since they have so many players. Which meant more playing time!

 Austin is getting really fun to watch. His age group "gets" how to play the game now.

Klayton was doing baseball this season but we got to pick him up to play in the tournament with us. It's always fun to watch these cousins play together.

One of the things I love about soccer is that success really depends on how well you can play as a team. It takes everyone doing their part. Scoring a goal does not come easy so it is super exciting when it happens!

Austin played defense most of the season but Coach Gish let him play forward some during the last game. In the picture above you can see a little of Austin as he is approaching the goalie. He dribbled past the 2 white players, juked the goalie, and scored a goal! He was super excited!!
