Trunk or Treat

We took Austin and Mikayla to the trunk or treat at the church. It was so much fun! This was a new experience for Austin since last Halloween he couldn't even walk yet. Austin had a great time collecting the candy from the trunks of ward members cars. At the third trunk he wanted to give a piece of his candy to the person handing out the candy. But he caught on quickly and soon enough he started holding out his hand for candy when we approched a new trunk. There were so many people there and some pretty cool decorated trunks.
Me and Andrea decorated Jeff's tailgate--I thought it turned out pretty neat and we even won an honorable mention award. After collecting candy we went inside the church and enjoyed the games/activities they had there. Austin did some cookie decorating (kind of), fishing, bean bag toss, but his favorite was jumping in the Jupiter Jump. It was a great night and we had so much fun.

Pumpkin Carving

Saturday October 25th

Austin's cousins came over this morning so we could carve our pumpkins. After cutting out the top of his pumpkin I tried to get him to scoop out the pumpkin guts. Out of curiosity he put his hand inside but once he touched the slimey insides he was done. Even with a spoon he took only one or two scoops. He decided that playing with his same old toys was funner than scooping out pumpkin guts. Andrea had better luck with Connor and Klayton--they were more adventurous than Austin. This year I went for the easy carve---the pumpkin face. After carving Connor's batman and Klayton's spiderman pumpkin, Andrea decided that the quick and easy pumpkin face sounded good to her too. Kelsey---up for a challenge---carved the more detailed and difficult monster/goblin on her pumpkin. Austin had much more interest in the pumpkins once they were done. He enjoyed taking the pumpkin tops off and on.

One Month Old

My baby girl is one month old. She is such a blessing to our family. She is becoming more alert and aware of her surroundings. It is fun to see those big blue eyes. When she is awake she often looks like she is trying to whistle.

Hopefully she will flash us a smile soon!!

She likes bathtime. During her first bath she cried a little at the beginning then decided it was kind of fun. Austin enjoyed soaking up the washcloth and rubbing her belly.

Austin has realized that she is here to stay. I still have to watch him carefully but he now doesn't seem to care as much if she is around. As of the last few days he has been more gentle and gives kisses on her head. He still likes to pull off her socks and pull her feet or snatch the bottle out of her mouth. Guess that is his way of teasing--just doing what big brothers do I guess.

We are still trying to work on the sleeping schedule. Some nights are better than others. She wakes up about every 2-3 hours and usually goes back to sleep quickly. She does grunt a lot while sleeping but I am learning to tune that out. She doesn't sleep in her pretty decorated crib, or even in the pack and play in our room, but in her carseat. We have found she sleeps best when all curled up tight. Hey, whatever works right? Hopefully she will convert to a matress soon.

But my favorite thing is holding her while she sleeps on my chest. I love that about newborns. I was sad when Austin would no longer sleep this way so I am enjoying every minute of it.

We are so happy to have Mikayla as part of our family!!

Leaves, Leaves, and more Leaves

Fall is definately here. Craig says this is his favorite time of year because of the nice cool weather. Although I'm sure college football has something to do with it as well. One of my favorite things about fall (besides the pumpkin pie) is when the leaves turn colors. It is beautiful driving through our neighborhood because there are tons of trees.

(pictures to come)......

However, with lots of trees comes lots of leaves---all falling to the ground. Those of you who know Craig know that he prides himself on a nice looking lawn. This becomes a big chore this time of year because after spending the evening raking and bagging leaves the lawn looks like this two days later.
So Craig, with all the raking and bagging of leaves, is this still your favorite time of year? Austin sure enjoys it!!

Visitors from Colorado

Thanks Jamie, Jeff, and Tyler for coming out here to see Mikayla. It was fun having you here!!
If only Austin could be as soft and careful with Mikayla as Tyler is.

Although these two needed a referee near by while they played together, Austin enjoyed having someone to play with on the trampoline and swingset at Grandma Reid's house.

Sorry Craig and Jeff but based on looks I think the Reid genes win out. However Austin's endless amount of enery and inability to sit still and quiet is a different story.

The Pumpkin Patch

We took Austin out to the Pumpkin Patch this year with his cousins Tyler, Connor, and Klayton. He had a blast playing on the playground and jumping inside the giant blow-up pumpkin. He also had fun running around the hay maze. The highlight however was riding the tractor out to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin. He enjoyed walking through the pumpkin patch while Craig searched for the perfect pumpkin (sadly a week later we put them outside on our front porch and they were stolen). I guess we will just have to go to good old Wal-mart to buy a pumpkin to carve.

October Swimming--Brrr!!

What a beautiful day for a swim----well actually it may have been a little chilly but that wasn't going to stop these guys from having fun.

He Loves Me---He Loves Me Not

So Austin is having a little bit of difficulty accepting the new addition to our family. He will smile and get excited when he sees the baby and may even go over to her and kiss her or pat her nicely on the head. But then 2 seconds later he will poke his finger at her head, or pull her feet, or even hit her.

This is teaching me two things:
1). I must have either him or her always in my eyesight
2). It's time to buckle down on the disciple (any suggestions here? cause the "time out" tactic doesn't really seem to bother him much)

But don't worry Mikayla---your big brother Austin really does love you (he just doesn't know it yet)

I'm So Spoiled Part 2

September 28th, 2008

So today Craig and Austin went to church while I stayed home with Mikayla to rest. When they came home I could hear Austin whinning and I knew that he was tired and ready for a nap. I was excited to hear about church and who was issued new callings (due to the creation of a 3rd ward) so I followed Craig to the bedroom to hear the scoop. After a few minutes I asked "Where is Austin?" Sure enough, we went into his room and found him lying in his bed with his covers on ready to go to sleep. Glad I have a son who truly values the idea of an afternoon nap---especially on Sundays!!!
