On Katelyn's first day home, Mikayla and Austin were super excited to hold their new baby sister.
Newborns sure do sleep a lot. Within the first few days, Austin was asking me "when is she going to open to her eyes?" I think all the sleeping is a blessing as we try to adjust to being a family of 6!
Remembering back to how difficult it was with Austin when Mikayla was born, I was a little nervous about how Brooklyn would react. But surprisingly it has gone well. Brooklyn doesn't seem to care much about Katelyn's presence and it is very rare that she will ask to hold her. But I am sure these two will be good little playmates as they grow up together.
At one week old, I had a fun time taking newborn pictures of Katelyn while Andrea was taking pictures of Carter. It is always more difficult than it looks but I am learning and am happy with them.
Chubby Cheeks
It didn't take long for Katelyn to get into a predictable schedule at night. There was only a couple nights that first week that she was wide awake in the middle of the night and I found myself watching TV until she was ready to go back to sleep.
At 13 days old, Austin helped me give Katelyn her first full bath. She actually enjoyed it and hung out in the water for a good 10 minutes before she started fussing to get out.
Her serious face
Katelyn sure does spit up a lot. The first couple nights at home I didn't sleep well because she was spitting up so much and I was afraid she was going to choke. She ended up sleeping in her bouncer.
At 4 weeks, I went back to my first night at work and Craig was on daddy duty. I had warned the kids to be good because dad would be all by himself for the first time. When my sister in law was talking to Mikayla about this, Mikayla told her "he is probably scared." Ha! She may have been right on that but it sounded like he had a good night and survived the middle of the night feedings.
Glimpses of her beautiful smile
Everyone always asks "who do you think she looks like?"
I can never really tell but most people say that she looks like Austin.
I can never really tell but most people say that she looks like Austin.
And another comparison picture
Looks like she might be Austin's sister after all
So now I am a mother of 4!! Wow! It is a lot of work and exhausting at times but so worth it!
My favorite part of this newborn stage is when my baby curls up on my chest and sleeps.
I call it heart-to-heart time!!
