The Bruin Mile

Austin participated in the Bruin Mile for the first time this year. I told Austin he is not competing against anybody else but himself and just encouraged him to do his best.
 Ready, Get Set, Go!!
 Go Austin!
 Go Klayton!
Crossing the finish line at a 7:33 minute mile! Faster than anything I could ever do!!
Austin finished 12th out of the 136 4th/5th graders that participated from the Bartlesville schools.
Great job buddy!

More September Stuff

Playing around in between Austin's soccer games. These girls are always such good sports about entertaining themselves while at their brother's soccer games.
 Yumm! Yumm!
Brooklyn's first time at the dentist. She was the perfect patient and had no cavities!!
Abby making herself right at home.
The summer weather wasn't in any hurry to change so on Sept 9th we went down to the neighborhood pool for one last swim.

We had a few days of cooler weather so I jumped at the opportunity to take the girls to the zoo.
Katelyn was more interested in the hay than the goats.
Super cute picture of Brooklyn and her Uncle Todd at Mikayla's baptism.
The 3 of us participated in the 180 Run together. It was Austin's first timed 5K and he finished with a time of 27:43 which is pretty great! Especially considering that he had already run 3 miles at school that day for the Wayside walk-a-thon.
And we spent the last night of September sleeping in a tent in the backyard. I actually slept inside the house with Katelyn but Craig and these kiddos slept in the tent we got for Christmas last year that we hadn't used it. They took turns telling ghost stories before going to bed and I guess Craig told one a little too spooky cause a couple of the kids told him they were scared. So then they told funny ones. They enjoyed themselves and everyone made it through the night okay.
Looks like it's time to do some real camping!!

Wayside Walk-A-Thon

It's that time of year again. The kids always look forward to the Wayside walk-a-thon where they are given 20 minutes to do as many laps as they can to help raise money for the school.

And there they go! Perfectly trained to smile when they see mom with the camera. Ha!

Austin did 24 laps which comes out to 3 miles in 20 minutes. He did awesome!
Mikayla also did great and ran 20 laps. And Brooklyn was the best cheerleader!

It's Great to be 8!!

Mikayla is now 8 years old! She is chatty and social and loves playing with friends. She is creative and imaginative. She loves to color, draw, and write. She likes to play school at home and pretends to be the teacher and uses her little sisters as her classmates. She is a great big sister (most of the time). She is really good about playing with Brooklyn and Katelyn which is often a big help to me. She is independent and strong-willed and persistent. Hopefully we can channel that into a positive direction that will be motivating and empowering throughout her life!
About a month ago Mikayla was given a school assignment to research her name. We discovered that her name means "gift from God." Craig and I both had to smile when we learned that because sometimes we have a difficult time knowing the best way to parent her. So whenever it has been a rough day I remind myself that she is my gift from God. She is teaching me to be more patient, more loving, more forgiving, and more humble as I try to figure out how to be a good mom to this beautiful girl! I have no doubt that as she grows older she will not only be my gift from God but she will be able to reach out, love, and help others and they will see her as a gift from God as well.
We love you Mikayla!! More than you will ever know!
Something exciting and special happens at the age of 8 in our church. Mikayla made the decision to be baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Brooklyn wanted to join in the picture taking. I hope Mikayla will understand someday how important she is as an example to her two younger sisters.
Mikayla helped plan her baptism program and we are lucky to have so many family members close by that she could ask to participate. She had a room full of people who came to her baptism including family members, friends, her primary teacher and her past primary teachers. In her journal, Mikayla even wrote "I was almost going to cry because of all those people at my baptism celebrating me."
The baptism was sweet, special, and perfect. While I was in the locker room with Mikayla after her baptism I asked her what she thought and how she felt? She said "I feel really good."
For her birthday, we got Mikayla her own personalized set of scriptures. We hope that as she grows up, she will gain a love for the scriptures and use them to help her in her daily life!
At her baptism we asked those who came to write down their name and favorite scripture on a piece of paper and put it in a jar. We have enjoyed looking them up in her new scriptures and highlighting them, hoping to begin a discovery of eternal truths that will strengthen her testimony and love for the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Happy Birthday Mikayla

Mikayla turned 8 years old on Saturday September 24th. On Friday night her cousin Kambria spent the night so we got donuts for her birthday breakfast and sang Happy Birthday!
Mikayla wanted to go roller-skating for her birthday so we loaded up some friends in the van and went down to Roller Sports in Broken Arrow for some skating fun!

Taking a break to play some games

Mikayla loves roller blading and had so much fun!
 Present time!

She picked out Shopkins cupcakes for her party

Happy Birthday Mikayla!!
We love you so much and hope that you felt extra special on your birthday!
