There's No Tricking This Two Year Old

Austin has always been a good sleeper. He is very easy to put down for nap and to bed. He usually goes willingly---sometimes he even initiates the idea. I know, I'm lucky. So today after playing a couple hours at grandma's house, I was sure he would be pretty tired and ready for a nap.

When we got home he was full of energy. But I knew I could use my trickery ways---offered him a drink but he wasn't interested but I did get him into his bed eating a graham cracker and after no noise for 15 minutes I figured my work was done--until he came out of his room with his einsteins. So the ultimate trick--I grabbed his pillow (which he is very possessive of) and said "bye-bye, I am going to lay on your pillow in your bed" (which I did) and then I heard him run down the hallway (smile--I knew it would work). Wait--he didn't even come into the room but instead just shut his door and left me in there. Guess he thought it was my turn to nap. (ahh--I wish)

But he did decide that his little einsteins needed a nap! At least somebody is getting one today!

Saved By The Mailman!!

So more crazy Oklahoma weather....the last two weeks we have enjoyed the spring weather--the sun shinning, the grass and leaves turning green, and some nice play days at the park. But this last week has been rainy, then cold, then SNOW!! Since we didn't get much snow this winter and knowning this would be the last snow (hopefully), I decided we should at least get out and enjoy it a little. So we took Austin sledding.
We picked the tallest hill closest to the house but Craig was a little nervous about parking at the bottom of the hill in the parking lot--afraid we wouldn't be able to get back out. So we pulled over on the side of the road (of a major street) and parked there hoping we wouldn't get caught. We started sledding...up and down...up and down....we were having a great time.
So then BUSTED---a cop came driving by and pulled up behind our parked car and turned on his lights. I was sure we would get a ticket. But just as the cop stepped out of the car the mailman drove by and soaked him with the snow slush/water that was all over the road. The cop said a naughty word then jumped back into his car and took after the mailman.
Feeling lucky that we had avoided a ticket but knowing the cop would return shortly Craig took Austin down the hill one more time then ran back up and we jumped in the car and took off---Austin in his carseat crying "no....more....more"

6 Months Old

Mikayla is growing quick and learning more everyday. She loves the view from sitting up whether it is in her playtoy, her high chair, stroller walks or just on the floor. It has become a new world to her now. She is also loving the new variety of food---cereal/fruit combo and vegetables. So far we have tried peas, squash, and carrots and she gobbles down every one....yumm yumm (at least the baby chub is still cute at this point).
She has also conquered holding the bottle all by herself which I love because it gives me 10 min that I can run around hands free and throw in a batch of laundry or do the dishes. She has become quite the rolly polly. Only after a minute on her back and she quickly flips over to her tummy but hasn't quite figured out that she can flip back over to her back. So a little help from mommy is needed once she gets tired of laying on her stomach. She loves to reach and grab at anything that is in front of her. And when she can't find anything within reach she will resort to grabbing her own feet and pulling off her socks which she loves to do. Her sleeping habits are frustrating at times. Generally she takes three short (30-45 min) naps during the day so you would thing she would sleep all night. We had a few great nights where it looked like she was headed in that direction but the last week has been more difficult with her waking up more than once during the night. So I know it is time to try some new tactics and help teach her how to fall asleep on her own.
So last night I laid her in the crib with her bottle hoping she would fall asleep. Went in later to check on her and the bottle was gone but she was still awake but happy so I decided to let her be and see what happens. So about 1/2 hour later I went in to check on her (knowing that she was asleep since I hadn't heard a peep). It was dark and as I looked at her sleeping I thought to myself "Is that a binky in her mouth?" (which she uses often to go to sleep with) After looking closer and almost laughing outloud I realized it was her sock that she had halfway in her mouth. Guess from now on she will be sleeping without socks. She is such a funny girl. But she did sleep all night until 7 a.m.

By The Way.....
